BURIED LEDE AWARD: NYT hides why these Iraqi immigrants may be deported in 10th paragraph

Shot. The Trump administration may be deporting Iraqi Christians:

Chaser. Here’s why they may be deported:

Why is it a story that the U.S. is deporting rapists and murderers?

Oh, it gets worse.

According to the NYT, the only reason they weren’t deported earlier — like under the Obama administration — was because Iraq wouldn’t issue them travel documents:

“The operation in this region was specifically conducted to address the very real public safety threat represented by the criminal aliens arrested,” said Rebecca Adducci, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official in Detroit.

The men had been allowed to stay, in some cases for decades, because the Iraqi government had refused to issue travel documents for them to return.

And in a stunning bit of irony, the deportations can move forward because Trump dropped Iraq from his Muslim ban:

That changed in March, when Iraq agreed to begin accepting deportees in exchange for being dropped from the list of countries affected by Mr. Trump’s revised travel ban, which barred citizens of several predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States.

So, because Trump listened to liberals and dropped Iraq from his Muslim ban list, they’re getting deported?
