There were more than a few fireworks during Sen. Al Franken’s opening statement on Attorney General nominee Sen. Jeff Sessions earlier this morning, with Bloomberg’s Sahil Kapur calling it a “rampage”:
Sen. Al Franken is currently on a rampage in the Judiciary Cmte launching arrows @ Cruz, Trump, Sessions; “bogus” voter fraud, popular vote.

.@alfranken says he is "not confident" that "sen. sessions is able to separate fact from [Trump's] fiction and speak truth to power ."

Franken directed much of his ire at Sen. Ted Cruz, who was late to the hearing:
Testy in Judiciary as Franken goes after Cruz while Cruz not here, @JohnCornyn objects because Franken is being "untoward and inappropriate"

The theatrics were all for not, however, as Sessions passed the committee on a party-line vote:
.@alfranken's scathing speech ends. Committee approves Sessions on party-line vote.Pure tension and hostility in that room.
