"A newborn is without his father Friday" — because his father was wanted on an outstanding homicide warrant

If you’ve been on Twitter at all today, you’ve probably come across the viral video of ICE detaining a man while he’s driving his wife to the hospital to have a baby. It doesn’t get more heartless than that — abolish ICE, now.

Yes, that’s a very interesting chat, but none of it gets to the detail that the man driving his wife to the hospital was wanted by law enforcement authorities in Mexico on an outstanding homicide warrant.

You have to read quite a ways into CBS Los Angeles’ coverage to learn that bit, though. Check out this opening sentence:

A newborn is without his father Friday after immigration agents detained the man as he was taking his wife to deliver the baby.

“I feel very bad right now,” Maria del Carmen Venegas told CBS2 News in Spanish as she held her baby boy while still in her hospital gown.

Oh, and a GoFundMe account has been set up to raise money for the family, of course. CBS Los Angeles linked to it in its story — we’re gonna pass on that. For what it’s worth, the woman was able to drive herself to the hospital without incident.

Seems the only people who don’t know the media’s credibility is in the toilet are the media. They should have some reporters look into it.
