Man suspected in French school shootings is dead

The Jihadi suspected of killing seven people in a series of shootings in France is reportedly dead after a lengthy standoff with French police.

THE suspect in the Toulouse shootings spree has been found dead in his apartment, French police have said.

The confirmation that Mohammed Merah was dead came after the sound of explosions and gunfire at the flat where the suspect had been cornered in the city.

It is not clear if Merah had been shot by police or had taken his own life.

Earlier, the French interior minister said the man had stopped communicating with authorities and might have committed suicide…

Authorities said Merah, a French citizen of Algerian descent, espoused a radical form of Islam and had been to Afghanistan and the Pakistani militant stronghold of Waziristan, where he claimed to have received training from al-Qaida.
