On Bill Maher, James Kirchick spent 2 full minutes warning that “queer extremism” is DESTROYING support for gay marriage, and he actually nails it.
Gallup shows support for same-sex marriage is sliding, and among Republicans, it’s CRATERING. Social issues almost never reverse like this:
Overall: 71% (2022) → 65% (2026)
Republicans: 55% (2021) → 37% (2026)
Independents: 77% (2022) → 67% (2026)
This isn't a "tolerance" problem. It's a "leave me and my kids alone" problem. Nobody needs to hear who you sleep with.
Republicans (and even some Democrats) had adopted a live-and-let-live attitude with gay marriage. But the TQ+ in LGBTQ+ refuses to get out of their faces, hence the huge backlash. Here's Kirchick on Bill Maher's talk show discussing his concerns. (WATCH)

So he’s normal gay and gets it. Sexuality is nothing to be celebrated regardless of what one’s preference is. Public displays of affection and open lewdness have always been frowned upon, even when it’s between a hetero couple. Keep what you do and who you do it with behind the closed door of your home. It’s called being “intimate” because it’s close personal time with one’s partner. Not displaying what kink one is into or with whom they are into it with, so it’s everyone’s business. No one really cared who someone slept with until it was shoved in everyone’s faces constantly, forced upon the kids, talked about in schools, in every other commercial/ad you see, flying flags for whatever end of the alphabet mafia. Now, everyone is fatigued with it. It went from just wanting tolerance and acceptance to demanding participation and celebration.

The TQ+s insist on constantly being in the faces of people who want nothing to do with them. They want to obliterate societal norms.
To this end, TQ+s insist on forcing themselves into every aspect of conservatives’ lives. That’s especially true with children's lives.
Gays messed up when they went and are going after kids. Normal straight people want to protect children, not exploit them. Also, crazy straight liberal women are causing fights over men in women's sports; they don't belong in our sports or our spaces, but it's being forced on us. Marriage is a civil matter; they have a right to get married. I am just over gays and trans right now, and I was a BIG supporter back in the 90s, fighting for their right to get married. I'm done.

It's a backlash to trans, imo. The vast, vast majority do not want primary school kids being told to figure out their gender, do not want minors put on health-destroying hormones and blockers, and do not want men in women-only areas.

They blame LGB for what they are seeing.
That’s because most LGBs' reactions to this encroachment have been tepid at best.
Some LGBs say they’ve checked out of the 'gay culture' since they feel it’s been hijacked by TQs.
Being gay has so little to do with my life anymore. I live surrounded by family with my longtime companion of 25 years. We don't go to gay bars or gay anything. We live in a family-friendly community and are roundly accepted and treated like everyone else. Our life is virtually indistinguishable from an older heterosexual couple, minus the grandchildren, unfortunately.
I'm noticing my internal dialogue turning against the queer political project. It's an annoyance bordering on distaste. The weird part is I'm starting to see them as 'the other'. They are conducting themselves under our name but are not serving our interests. We've been hijacked.
They are not serving gays and lesbians. They've even erased us and replaced us under a 'queer' umbrella, then put trans on an equal footing. This tiny minority took over our movement.

Thank you for words - they ring true. I was just posting about my partner and I in our small town just wanting a quiet life with our dogs. We don’t wear rainbows or go to Pride. So many of us are like this. We are just normal people whose lives have been co-opted by others

There are several LGB groups that feel this way. They fought for decades for their freedoms and then TQ+ hijacked the movement with extremist views. Started including children and then became violent.
They actually made the slippery slope anti-gay people right.

Hopefully, the LGBs are waking up to the destruction TQs are bringing not only to them but to society as a whole.
