Cory Booker easily wins US Senate primary, breaks promise to finish mayoral term

In a surprise to no one, dog rescuer, cat saver, and erstwhile mayor of Newark Cory Booker secured the Democratic nomination for a New Jersey U.S. Senate seat. Despite his crony tech scandal, the voters were utterly smitten by his social media acumen and his ability to eat on less than $30 a month, which really should be the only prerequisites for being a U.S. Senator.

There’s also the tiny matter of breaking his promise to the citizens of Newark:

Having won his first four-year term in 2006, if he wins the Senate seat it will interrupt his second term, which would have ended in 2014. Good thing for him the Democratic voters of New Jersey didn’t seem to care.

Awwww!
