If Axios' sources are correct, Trump's purported top VP pick could make for a wild 2024 campaign

As of right now, Donald Trump is still running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Not sure why the thought of another Trump administration would appeal to anyone, considering what a boon his first one was to congressional Democrats. Seriously, it takes a special kind of ineptitude to turn Congress and the White House over to the Democratic Party while the Democratic Party is screwing up as badly as the Democratic Party screwed up.

Anyway, Trump’s running for president. And if he’s actually serious about winning, he’ll have to choose the right running mate. A running mate who will give him credibility and earn him some respect.

Or, he can choose someone who’s exactly like him:

Kari Lake?

Lake, a former TV anchor who lost her race for Arizona governor in November, meets Trump’s most important qualification for a No. 2:

  • She has shown she’s willing to defend him vociferously, no matter the issue or controversy.

  • But Trump friends say Lake carries a big downside: He wants no risk that his running mate could outshine him. Lake would be assumed to be angling for president from the day she entered the White House. She made a political trip to Iowa last month.

  • And of course losing her winnable governor’s race (which she challenged) hurts her mojo.

Kari Lake for VP? What could possibly go wrong?

Now, assuming that Axios’ sources are reliable and that Trump is indeed looking at Kari Lake as a potential running mate, this raises a very important question: If Donald Trump were trying to ensure that the Democratic Party gets another four years in the White House, what would he be doing differently?

It doesn’t look like it. If Donald Trump ends up being the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, say hello to four more years of a Democratic presidential administration.
