Heartbroken tweeter is 'ashamed of [her] country' after encountering display of 'banned books' for sale at a bookstore [photo]

When books are outlawed, only outlaws will have books.

Well, outlaws and bookstores:

Went into a bookstore today. This makes me ashamed of my country. 🙁 pic.twitter.com/vomAjchxGZ

Frankly, we’d be a lot more ashamed that we actually thought any of these books had been banned in our country when multiple copies are literally sitting right there on the shelf for anyone to buy.

Damn you for not letting us buy these books, Barnes & Noble! https://t.co/zYqnnM4CcA

We’re genuinely embarrassed for this Leesa person.

Me too. That there are people gullible enough to believe books being sold in a bookstore have been "banned." https://t.co/xPAPYKJAMG

Yeah, talk about depressing.

where, precisely, are these books banned…in the year 2022? https://t.co/PeSuYl0cEk

They’re not banned in that bookstore, clearly.

How do you figure they're banned if they're sitting right there on the shelf?

— Pete D’Abrosca (@pdabrosca) June 7, 2022

These books are for sale in a bookstore anybody can go into. That's the opposite of banned. https://t.co/3fC1LQ8URA

You know what's great about America? You can go into any major bookstore, or online, and have access to a whole series of books that are allegedly "banned." pic.twitter.com/vR9NUy9aRi

For a price, of course. If you want to read them, you must pay.

"Oh my God these books have been banned," she said while freely buying the books at a commercial retailer with no fear of consequences https://t.co/PG5WN3lp1e

These books are banned, which is why they are for sale and prominently displayed. https://t.co/qe9HUw1Cq9

— H.P. Loveshaft (@HLoveshaft) June 7, 2022

Yeah, you might actually have to pay more than you normally would. Because whatever bookstore this is appears to be hoping that enough Leesas will walk in and be so convinced that they’re not allowed to buy those books that they’ll buy those books.

It’s truly shameful that a store would freely sell items and yet label them as banned for marketing purposes. I hate deceptive advertising.

— Jay (@OneFineJay) June 7, 2022

Still laughing at the idea of books for sale in literally thousands of stores as well as online, being described as 'banned.'

As with Pride Month, you're being marketed to by massive soulless corporations who don't just think you're stupid – they know you're stupid. https://t.co/lK6Sv7nU7z

anyone fooled by a marketing/advertising scheme like this should not be able to vote IMO https://t.co/g2RdhA3mbX

That seems fair.
