There were glimmers of hope that they’d be saved, but no longer.
Huh, that can’t be good. pic.twitter.com/fR5n68AuqK

The Weekly Standard is reportedly officially being shut down.
The Weekly Standard is being shut down.

Per source: The Weekly Standard is shutting down. No merger with the Washington Examiner.

Ugh. There it is. End of an era. https://t.co/NdDG69kBTd

This is really a shame.

God damn it.

I think Ryan McKibben and MediaDC have made a terrible mistake by shuttering @weeklystandard. I hope they'll at least let someone buy and continue it.

Sorry to hear this. While I often disagreed with its perspective, @weeklystandard was an important and serious source of news and opinion. Condolences to @stephenfhayes @BillKristol et al https://t.co/Zn01dvsezP

It is incredibly sad to see the Weekly Standard shutting down, and if you're celebrating it, you don't get what this means.

While Bill Kristol has gone off the rails over the past couple of years, the Weekly Standard has also been home to some fantastic and talented writers. Let’s hope they land on their feet.
So much talent at the Standard that I’ve got to believe it’ll all be snapped up quickly

The Weekly Standard: an always-interesting magazine, with sterling writers and editors, the best of competitors. The world is a less interesting and informed place without it. Hopefully everybody finds good spots in other venues. pic.twitter.com/rxnTXnWVwc

Amen.
My first gig in DC was as a summer intern at The Weekly Standard. Fred Barnes gave me some very good advice: "The most essential quality an article can have is the quality of doneness." https://t.co/B9k8JqbChJ

Update:
Yikes. This is pretty messed up:
Weekly Standard subscriptions will now be fulfilled by the new Washington Examiner magazine.
Staffers had suspected MediaDC didn't want to sell The Weekly Standard to a new buyer because it wanted to use its subscribers to help launch its new WaEx mag https://t.co/ddTXTUesGc pic.twitter.com/VtNwcHxa1U
— Oliver Darcy (@oliverdarcy) December 14, 2018
Wow.
This is insane. Nobody at either magazine deserves this. https://t.co/YnXcGn5AHW

This is the Machiavellian plan almost blistering in its hilarious stupidity. The cancellations will come in the tens of thousands. https://t.co/vTlyVIbO5j
