Lord knows Donald Trump says a lot of things that could be most charitably described as “controversial.” The phrase “menace of radical Islamic terrorism” isn’t one of them. But NBC News White House correspondent Geoff Bennett seems to think it is:
Trump in Shanksville talks of U.S. troops fighting “the menace of radical Islamic terrorism” — a controversial campaign catchphrase he didn’t use in last year’s 9/11 observance

First of all, it’s not really what you’d call a catchphrase. And second of all, where’s the controversy? Seventeen years after 9/11, our troops are still fighting the “menace of radical Islamic terrorism.” That’s not a controversial catchphrase; that’s the truth.
Controversial? Are you kidding?

Narrator: It's not controversial.
— Jay K (@JayKlos) September 11, 2018
there's nothing controversial about it.

Where is the controversy? Is it too true?

What a strange world we live in where the truth is controversial.

Catchphrase to you. Truth to others.

Radical islam is a menace and terror…yea ..say it with me ..

He is correct and it is NOT controversial because it is true. Who attacked us?
— Annie (@anniehic) September 11, 2018
Today of all days is the most appropriate time to use this. It's not a catch phrase if it's true.

How is using the phrase "radical Islam terrorism" controversial? Wow, we live in a bizarre society.
— JdJake (@JdJake123) September 11, 2018
I'm sorry – is there some controversy in the fact that the 9/11 attacks were motivated by a radical interpretation of Islam? I wasn't aware that there was a factual debate here. Perhaps we should ask around the #FactMatter journo crowd? Anyone?

Controversial.
And you guys still wonder why people loathe the media.
