With Maxine Waters openly advocating violence against members of the Trump administration, Democrats are once again on the fast track to blowing it. S.E. Cupp was one of many to point that out today:
Dems have a singularly uncanny ability to take a week of visceral leftward momentum…and suddenly drive millions back into Trump’s arms. #smh https://t.co/Xbp7K81Adr
— S.E. Cupp (@secupp) June 25, 2018
She’s right, of course. But singer John Legend, who’s never waded into a political ocean that’s not too deep for him, took issue with Cupp’s spot-on assessment:
Who are these hypothetical persuadables hanging on Maxine Waters' every word?
— John Legend (@johnlegend) June 25, 2018
Yeah, who are these “hypotheticals”?

You’re damn right, he is.
Tell that to Steve Scalise

People have shot up baseball fields full of Republican politicians under the rhetorical influence of far less powerful leftist leaders. https://t.co/ekV1xGc4gG

When there a a mass assassination attempt against a group of republicans just a year ago, we can't pretend this is not a big deal.
— Michael J. Caruso (@MJ_Caruso) June 25, 2018
Why don’t we just ask House Republican Whip Steve Scalise his thoughts about this? One of @SenSanders followers shot and almost killer him. Without any antagonizing words from Sanders. Her words stir up further hate between people that will get someone hurt or killed.

But that’s OK, because when Republicans get hurt, they deserve it.
It doesn't matter because you need it to not matter.

Exactly. A sitting congresswoman encouraging violence against her political opponents should matter to everyone, of any political persuasion. But it apparently doesn’t matter to John Legend.
Bottom line is that I'm very comfortable with a non violent form of social censure being visited upon people who implement and defend such intentionally harmful policies. Far less pain is being visited upon Sarah et al than these families at the border. Shame on the whole lot
— John Legend (@johnlegend) June 25, 2018
If she doesn't want to be held accountable for the administration's evil, she can resign and denounce it.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) June 25, 2018
In other words, she needs to stop wearing such short skirts. Sure, John. Go with that. See how far it gets you. We’re guessing you’re going to be very disappointed.
You look right past what Maxine said and act like it’s okay. Why don’t you condem what she said? No one should be treated unfairly because you disagree with them. This is the divisive thinking that got trump elected.
