At long last, Gary Oldman has won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in “The Darkest Hour.” And he couldn’t’ve been happier:
This is the best Oscar speech ever because he's just happy that he won. #Oscars

Gary Oldman thanks his 98-year-old mother. "Thank you for your love and support. Put the kettle on. I'm bringing Oscar home." https://t.co/KGJMUsJlgf #Oscars pic.twitter.com/qLd7JdNoJ2

But what made his speech especially poignant and unique was this:
Gary Oldman with a subtly great shout out to America #Oscars90 #AcademyAwards

"I've lived in America for a long time and I am deeply grateful" — Gary Oldman on winning Best Actor #Oscars

How refreshing to hear a celebrity stand on the Oscars stage and say something good about this country. Maybe Hollywood isn’t ready to hear something like that:

Their silence is says it all.
That’s horrible 🙁

But for a lot of people, it’s a welcome change.

Gary Oldman thanked America first and then Winston Churchill — most gracious #Oscars speech in years.

Finally someone on the Oscars thanks America for all it has done for them instead of slamming our country! Thank you Gary Oldman! Job well done!

Gary Oldman well deserved Oscar for his portrayal of Churchill.
He also appreciates what America has given him when it wasn’t necessary. Haven’t heard many American born film folks say the same. Well done to Gary. #Oscars— jason wormser (@worm_66) March 5, 2018
