As Twitchy told you, among the many incredibly disturbing details contained in Variety’s new exposé on Matt Lauer is that Lauer apparently had a button under his desk that let him lock the door from the inside:
Matt Lauer "had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up." https://t.co/9OTX46I9yX

For anyone wondering at how NBC could have allowed such a thing, this little nugget from former NBC News exec Betsy Fischer Martin might shed some light on that:
FYI, as strange as it sounds in print, several execs at NBC News have this auto door close switch under their office desks at 30 Rock. I always found it to be intimidating but not unusual.

Pardon?
Close? Or lock?

I, too, would like to know this answer, Betsy!

well – it would totally depend on the switch on your door handle – some are switched to the lock position and others are not. The office "guest" has no idea of the setting when the door closes. #doordna

Well, that’s not at all creepy or anything.
Interesting. https://t.co/ryo7cycgyY

Also a thing Bond Villains tend to have, as well as a surgical bench with a laser pointed at it.

Seriously, what the hell is going on at NBC?
NBC News offices are, apparently, housed in Dr. Claw's evil lair. https://t.co/vpx9UsWBZO

It’s practice that encourages a host of abusive & illegal behaviors. I’d bring it up in court if I were rep’ing any victims suing NBC.

I don't find this reassuring at all. This just sounds like a whoooole bunch of the execs at NBC News are creepy.

The buttons say an awful lot about the culture at @NBCNews and not in a good way.
