This tweet is making people who never looked up the ACLU's history before joining it very mad online. https://t.co/a7pAwHxnSZ

As Twitchy told you, Ann Coulter’s planned speech at Berkeley is off. There’s still some disagreement as to who exactly pulled the plug on the event — Coulter or the university — but yesterday, the American Civil Liberties Union voiced their disgust with the cancellation:
The heckler’s veto of Coulter's Berkeley speech is a loss for the 1st Amendment. We must protect speech on campus, even when hateful.
— ACLU (@ACLU) April 26, 2017
It’s worth pointing out that since Coulter never delivered her speech, it’s maybe a bit premature to suggest it might be “hateful.”
How do you that her speech included hateful things?
— Deeds Undone (@deedsundone) April 27, 2017
"Disagree with" =/= "hateful"
— Don Brett-Davies (@DaPro63) April 27, 2017
"Hateful?" Pardon me, guys, but support free speech without stooping to slander the speaker, please. Thank you.
— Mark Davis (@MarkDavis) April 27, 2017
What was hateful in her speech that she gave at Berkely? Oh, wait, she has yet to give the speech. You are assuming.
— Brandon Carpenter (@BrandonCNews) April 26, 2017
But aside from that, the ACLU’s pro-First Amendment stance is still rubbing a lot of supposed defenders of civil liberties the wrong way.

Are you going to defend every person who loses a book deal or a speaking engagement now? Free speech doesn't mean giving a platform to it?

— Sunny Side Up! (@TheShadeOfItAII) April 26, 2017
That is not free speech. Its hateful. Any discrimination is hateful. And you must call it out everyday. THIS IS NOT FREE SPEECH.
— ?Joshua R. (@hsojlightfoot) April 27, 2017
NO you should not be protecting hate speech bc hate speech causes immediate measurable social harm. Look at #Canada #charterofrights
— Alice Elizabeth (@AliceGlencross) April 26, 2017
Hate speech is NOT FREE SPEECH it is a MARKETING Tool to incite violence & cause harm. It is not sharing of ideas it is recruiting to harm

Guess I know better than to donate to the ACLU going forward.
— Keldi (@keldi) April 26, 2017
I've been a donor, you guys mostly do great work but if you fall for this stunt I will never send another penny
— MrFeedback (@noiserawker) April 27, 2017
the aclu's stance here continues to be astoundingly, willfully ignorant. framing it the way they just did borders on misinformation
— nathan grayson (@Vahn16) April 26, 2017
considering pulling my monthly donation, @ACLU. please cut this shit out
— nathan grayson (@Vahn16) April 26, 2017
Remember when y'all used to be radically active? Now we get this bullshit?
