Why can't Buzzfeed just say they aren't a failing pile of garbage? It's a simple question. https://t.co/u10CQVaMIZ

BuzzFeed’s reputation’s been circling the drain for some time now, but after publishing a 35-page “dossier” full of unsubstantiated dirt on Trump last night, they’re practically on life support.
Shortly after the dossier went live, editor in chief Ben Smith shared a memo admitting that BuzzFeed published the report without verifying any of the claims in the interest of being “transparent with our journalism and to share what we have with our readers.” Smith was — unsurprisingly — throttled for that B.S. explanation. So, naturally, BuzzFeed’s CEO Jonah Peretti found a way to make things even worse by sending this note out today:
Here’s note BuzzFeed CEO @peretti sent staff today.
“We are not going to respond to these divisive comments,” he says re: Trump criticism. pic.twitter.com/O3SO7Z3k8G

Dude. Congratulations, Jonah. You’ve found a way to dig that hole even deeper.

It's not that they published the dossier. The dossier is real. It exists. It's news. It's that they published as if it were *substantiated*. https://t.co/u6Y84lHThl

Every outlet he names came out against the report Buzzfeed published. Buzzfeed won't say if stands by the report, only decision to publish https://t.co/DLvUwgxeoB

The only thing that could have made that second paragraph worse and more cringeworthy is if he'd said "the haterz are just jealous!" https://t.co/l73zWhf7JB

Seriously. What the hell was Peretti thinking?
This note is delusional. https://t.co/prCSBL5qkn

That is precious. He actually believes himself re the whole 'journalism' part. Oh, the laugh/crying emoji just doesn't cut it.

Simply dreadful response, confirming their actions were designed for clicks, not journalism.

“Impactful journalism.”
I don’t think that word means what they think it means. https://t.co/AfxCzjc1A6
