'The whole episode disgusts me': Andrew Sullivan defends ex-Mozilla CEO and tolerance mob victim Brendan Eich

As Twitchy reported, Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich resigned today for committing the heinous crime of believing in traditional marriage. The horror!

He didn’t hurt anyone. He donated $1000 to support California’s Proposition 8. In 2008. And it’s worth noting that after he assumed his position as Mozilla’s CEO, he reiterated his commitment to preserving a culture of diversity and inclusiveness:

Does the Tolerance Brigade know that? Do they care?

Andrew Sullivan, who hasn’t exactly been kind to those who disagree with his views on gay rights, nevertheless slammed Mozilla for its treatment of Eich:

Will he now be forced to walk through the streets in shame? Why not the stocks? The whole episode disgusts me – as it should disgust anyone interested in a tolerant and diverse society. If this is the gay rights movement today – hounding our opponents with a fanaticism more like the religious right than anyone else – then count me out. If we are about intimidating the free speech of others, we are no better than the anti-gay bullies who came before us.
