It’s not often we find ourselves agreeing with Andrew Sullivan, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

Satan might want to don his snow boots, because I agree with @SullyDish – The Hounding Of A Heretic: http://t.co/AlK3PnkIRC via @DishFeed

As Twitchy reported, Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich resigned today for committing the heinous crime of believing in traditional marriage. The horror!
@sullydish @BrendanEich hurt a lot of people. I firmly believe that if he had shown true contrition for that, this would have blown over.
— Clarus the Dogcow (@The_Dogcow) April 3, 2014
He didn’t hurt anyone. He donated $1000 to support California’s Proposition 8. In 2008. And it’s worth noting that after he assumed his position as Mozilla’s CEO, he reiterated his commitment to preserving a culture of diversity and inclusiveness:
Inclusiveness at Mozila – https://t.co/wVkyhaI5Lf
— BrendanEich (@BrendanEich) March 26, 2014
Does the Tolerance Brigade know that? Do they care?
Andrew Sullivan, who hasn’t exactly been kind to those who disagree with his views on gay rights, nevertheless slammed Mozilla for its treatment of Eich:
The hounding and firing of @BrendanEich disgusts me – as it should anyone interested in a tolerant & diverse society: http://t.co/4NsQKeIpzi

More from Sullivan’s piece:
Will he now be forced to walk through the streets in shame? Why not the stocks? The whole episode disgusts me – as it should disgust anyone interested in a tolerant and diverse society. If this is the gay rights movement today – hounding our opponents with a fanaticism more like the religious right than anyone else – then count me out. If we are about intimidating the free speech of others, we are no better than the anti-gay bullies who came before us.
Amen to that.
Naturally, some people couldn’t resist attacking Sullivan for defending the free speech of a man with whom they disagree:

@sullydish @BrendanEich sorry. Not me.

.@sullydish Rather than being happy that homophobia is becoming toxic for corp PR, you're hand wringing over his 1st amnd right to a job?
— Neil Mungeam (@neilmungeam) April 3, 2014
. @sullydish ‘A tolerant & diverse society’ is one that doesn’t tolerate those who actively work to deny others equal rights. +@BrendanEich

@sullydish please! even his company says his views didn't align w/theirs. he's still free to give money to anti-gay orgs all he wants.

@brendanloy as always, @sullydish is full of crap and false equivalence nonsense. to say lgbt supporters are anything like bigots is idiotic
— Oliver Willis (@owillis) April 3, 2014
But from others, Sullivan gained some respect:
Anyway, back to work. Fellow liberals, please go read @sullydish – http://t.co/jKMzyVVBZf – and take what he says to heart. Enough of this.

I don't often agree with Andrew Sullivan, but I do today. Sure is a "tolerant" bunch that demanded the Firefox CEO's head.

@sullydish rightfully "disgusted" at intolerance on display @mozilla. http://t.co/V9CjFwb9Jl

Entirely with @sullydish on this. The whole thing is unpleasant and the Mozilla statement is particularly awful.
