If you've been on Twitter this weekend, you've likely seen the video of a Duke football player being pushed aside by a medical trainer as she attempted to tend to a player down on the field. The player took umbrage with being touched and jerked her arm away. It appears the woman is frightened and the football player doesn't really back off until a male coach comes out on the field. It wasn't a great scene, to say the least.
sports medicine girl nudged bro over, but you don’t swat at a small girl like that. punk. https://t.co/humgucVexc

It was a bad look. Also, if your teammate is injured, take a knee and allow the training staff to take care of the injured person.
are y’all ok? Did you play sports or were ever on a team? He KNOWS this woman. He knows her role. She’s probably wrapped many wrists, ankles or groins for him. That’s her job. Players NEVER should stand around gawking. She has authority in this situation.

This was my take. It made a whole lot of people really angry.
She has a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training. He is a junior in college majoring in psychology and African American studies, but y’all are right, he was much more equipped to help the injured player than she was. My bad. https://t.co/M2UeCnZ2xG

I shared some background on the athletic trainer since some called her a 'water girl'.
Someone with medical experience tried to explain the scene a bit more and also give some insight into how players are trained to treat the medical staff that works with the football team.
First step…clear the perimeter I think many don’t realize 1) how loud it is out there - there’s no “excuse me sir can you kindly step aside” 2) the urgency of the situation when condition is unknown 3) the NCAA officially grants "unchallengeable autonomous authority" to primary athletics healthcare providers including ATCs The downed athlete is the priority and any non-medical staff are simply in the way. #CollegeFootball #DukeFootball

I want to make it clear I fully understand this player may have been very worried about an injured teammate. That would cause distress for any athlete. Here's the thing, that doesn't give you the right to interfere in medical care for your friend or to behave aggressively because you are angry about being moved back.
🚨New: Duke Head Coach Manny Diaz has announced that junior Defensive Back Kimari Robinson has been suspended from the team indefinitely for shoving Grace Dietrich’s arm as she attempted to assist an injured teammate https://t.co/4565eQ62me

There is a rumor going around the player has been suspended. I have not been able to verify that. While we are giving opinions though, I also don't think he should be suspended indefinitely (as long as there are not other circumstances of him disrespecting leadership). I think he made a bad decision and he owes the trainer an apology. In addition, he should sit for a game. The team should also be retrained about protocol when a player is down.
It's time to return to some semblance of order in society, and that includes football players respecting the people who take care of their health.
