I am a proud Floridian. I am one of those rare people actually born in Orlando, Florida. I did not move here for weather or Disney. I have always been here. My Mom is the most hard core of Floridians. She is a 'conch'. This is the name given to Floridians born in Key West. My children are the fifth generation of our family to be born in Florida. There are many reasons I am proud of Florida. The beautiful weather, the gorgeous beaches, the family entertainment and the lovely people. Today, I have another reason to be proud. While some Jewish college and university students around the country are living in fear for their lives, Jewish students are commemorating Passover in grand fashion in Florida.

At Columbia, Jews have to flee the campus for their own safety on the first night of Passover. Meanwhile, at University of Florida, they’re having a Seder for 1200 in the basketball arena.
