You’ll see a lot of talk today about the expiration of long-term unemployment benefits.

Read @CatsPolitics’ tweets for an inspiring story of how to “make your own destiny” in America.
@LilMissRightie The worst problem right now is 3 unemployed people to every 1 available job. The Obama Economy.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
@BiasedGirl @LilMissRightie I've been unemployed & I've collected unemployment. For a few weeks while I made getting a new job my only job.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
@BiasedGirl @LilMissRightie This Federal extension of unemployment benefits is wrong. It enables people to stay unemployed.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
@LilMissRightie Ppl can do what I did: make your own business. I do theatre PR & catsitting. It's a good living. @BiasedGirl

True Story: my friend Gary lost his job when his employer closed the battery plant he worked in. He tried to find another factory job (1)
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(2) but there was nothing. He looked at what he could do & one day it hit him while he was mowing his lawn: he had a lawn mower & trimmer.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(3) He made his own flyers & went door to door in his neighborhood and many others. The first year he had 15 lawns once a week at $40 ea.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(4) He eventually worked himself into his own lawn care business & employs 5 people. Used what he had to make a living.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(5) Gary taught me to take what I have & what I can do & make a living doing it. Anyone can do it-if you're not afraid of hard work.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(6) I took my love of cats & combined it with my former job's skill of VIP customer service + sales to become a very-well-paid cat sitter.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(7) I love theatre & know how to sell, so I became a theatre PR flack. Hard work, no steady paycheck. But thrilling & I make my own destiny.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(8) Catsitting fills in the gaps when small theatre is off-season. It actually pays better & I get paid for doing what I do for my own cats!
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(9) Everyone has something that they love to do. Some of us find a way to make money doing it. Anyone can do it if you're willing to work.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(10) Or if you're like my mom & grandma, you clean houses, take in laundry & ironing, and babysit to make ends meet. You do what you must.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(11) Or start answering phones & sorting mail & work your way up into becoming the VP of HR like my sister did w/o a college degree.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(12) Bottom line: no job is beneath you if you make money & use it as a stepping stone to something better. Especially "crap" jobs.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
(13) And sitting on the couch collecting unemployment isn't a living. You make getting another job, any job, your occupation. Not the couch.
— CatsPolitics (@CatsPolitics) December 28, 2013
~Fin~ My rant was inspired by an earlier convo with @BiasedGirl & @LilMissRightie, two hardworking ladies who TCB & git 'er done.

You can check out Kurt’s books on Amazon. And would you look at that?
BTW, the book deal appears finalized! Look for it in June or so!

More from @CatsPolitics:
Make your own destiny. Don't depend on someone else for your security. Don't enslave yourself to creditors. Anyone can do it. America.

Get off the couch. Find people who are self-made. Study what they do. Ask q's. Learn from their successes & failures. Apply what you learn.
