Action alert: Ask Congress to defend and protect the #FreedomToBlog

As Twitchy has been reporting, the freedom to blog is under attack by a gang of serial harassers, SWAT-ters, and vexatious litigants. These vicious thugs use intimidation aimed at silencing anyone who writes about political terrorist Brett Kimberlin.

Today is the National Day of Blogger Silence. But this can’t be repeated enough: silence is not inaction.

Take today to spur elected officials and the media to defend and protect bloggers’ First Amendment rights. This is not a partisan issue.

Free speech is at stake as bloggers are finding their families, their livelihoods, and even their lives endangered by relentless harassment.

It’s enough.

Ask your congressman and senators to take immediate action against attempts to silence free speech through harassment and intimidation. Tweet, email, call, share posts on Facebook–do whatever you can to get these dangerous tactics taken seriously.

C-SPAN maintains a list of members of Congress on Twitter here. Use the #FreedomToBlog hashtag and send tweets like these to members of Congress, the Department of Justice, and journalists.

A response like this is unacceptable:

Ace has some thoughts on legislative action that Congress could take. And Christian Adams has some detail on 18 USC 241 which prohibits intimidation against Americans exercising their free speech rights.

If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.
