Department of Homeland Security Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen is finally pushing back on the media narrative that the Trump administration is separating asylum seekers and their children at the border.
You see, legit asylum seekers who present themselves a ports of entry (border crossings) are being treated the exact same as in previous administrations and Sec. Nielsen wants the media to start reporting the distinction between them and those caught crossing into the U.S. illegally:
This misreporting by Members, press & advocacy groups must stop. It is irresponsible and unproductive. As I have said many times before, if you are seeking asylum for your family, there is no reason to break the law and illegally cross between ports of entry.
— Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen (@SecNielsen) June 17, 2018
You are not breaking the law by seeking asylum at a port of entry.

And the only reason children are being separated from their parents when they arrive at a port of entry is if the “child is in danger, there is no custodial relationship between ‘family’ member, if of the adult has broken the law”:
For those seeking asylum at ports of entry, we have continued the policy from previous Administrations and will only separate if the child is in danger, there is no custodial relationship between 'family' members, or if the adult has broken a law.

And this is a point that needs to be made:
We do not have a policy of separating families at the border. Period.

And this last tweet isn’t going over very well with the blue-check mob. Some examples:
Sean Spicer: "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration — period — both in person and around the globe."
I wonder if the echo is intentional. https://t.co/PE4JDev38P

That is a barefaced non-fact. Exclamation point. https://t.co/ceh22V8nN2

You might want to ask John Kelly and Stephen Miller about that. https://t.co/FuUnVfjF7M
