Neil deGrasse Tyson fact-checks 'roses are red, violets are blue' poetry, gets fact-checked right back!

Twitchy regular Neil deGrasse Tyson is at it again, this time fact-checking “roses are red, violets are blue” poems:

If rhymes were accurate:
“Roses are red, violets are…violet.”

— Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson) December 17, 2017

Sigh:

I regret to inform you that Stoned Science Man is at it again. https://t.co/ghQykSkmCD

For starters, Tyson isn’t accurate. You know, science:

You imbecile, you moron. So many roses are not red. This is the dumbest tweet yet. https://t.co/dqufJRqXLK

ACTUALLY, not all roses are red and blueberries are not truly blue. You've been deGrassed, fool! https://t.co/pwJlIV1bQD

— Anthony Bialy (@AnthonyBialy) December 18, 2017

In your "correction" the quatrain no longer rhymes nor scans. Also viola sororia is known as the "common blue violet" by horticulturalists. https://t.co/wStvP7k4GT

But let’s give him a pass on roses for a second and enjoy some “violets are violet” poetry:

Roses are red, violets are violet,
Go read a novel and please be quiet. https://t.co/1DAsR6yX7Q

Roses are red
Violets are violet
Pedantry is boring
Sit down and be quiet https://t.co/6tLT0cJlqw

Roses are red

Violets are violet

Should sometimes stay quiet

Roses can be a variety of colors,
Violets can as well.
You and Nye can shut the hell up,
Because you’re both obnoxious as hell. https://t.co/6s7fYeWVrW

Roses are red
Violets are violet
Not all poems rhyme
And nobody likes you https://t.co/nkIAIvtFM7

Tyson does have this effect on people:

I have nothing but pure, guttural rage for this tweet and most of the replies to it. https://t.co/9LDDwbm26j
