Apparently a garbage dump has caught fire next to Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s plane was arriving in Russia:

Worse for Russian than the garbage fire metaphor, White House officials just held a background briefing on Syria and chemical weapons that called out Russia for attempting to cover up the attack:
#Syria regime “is culpable" for delivering sarin to attack civilians, says a senior US official.
— Steve Herman (@W7VOA) April 11, 2017
In #Syria “terrorists or rebels do not have sarin,” says senior administration official in Washington.
— Steve Herman (@W7VOA) April 11, 2017
“It’s clear Russia is trying to cover up what happened,” with #Syria chemical gas attack, says US official.
— Steve Herman (@W7VOA) April 11, 2017
“It’s a clear pattern of deflection blame” by #Russia concerning the sarin gassing of civilians by #Syria regime, adds US official.

The briefing also gave a motive for Assad’s use of chemical weapons:
According to backgrounder with 3 senior WH officials: Assad used CW in Khan Shaykhun to counter #Hama offensive and protect vital airbase.

WH offl: Reason CW used in Latamneh/Khan Shaykhun because "regime calculated that CW were necessary to make up for manpower deficiency."
— Jake Godin (@JakeGodin) April 11, 2017
WH official believed CW attacks in civilian areas behind front lines such as Latamneh/Khan Shaykhun likely intended to create pressure.
— Jake Godin (@JakeGodin) April 11, 2017
The official said the CW attacks fit into a "punch-counterpunch" scenario between regime and opposition forces in Hama.

With this disturbing bit of news:
WH officials also counted 200 alleged CW attacks since 2013 and asses many to be credible. @sams_usa counted at least 161 in a 2016 report. pic.twitter.com/9oBprMItPt

So much for everything the Obama administration said about getting ready of Syria’s chemical weapons.
