'Welp': The Syrian airbase we destroyed yesterday is already back up and running because we didn't target the runway

Well, so much for the effectiveness of last night’s missile attack in Syria:

According to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, we didn’t even target the runway:

We just aimed for the fuel depot:

But the mission was a success:

Early reports said the airbase was “almost completely destroyed.”

Almost.

More from Reuters:

The British-based Observatory, a group monitoring the Syrian war using sources on the ground, said eight people had been killed in the US attack.

The extent of the damage to the Shayrat air base was not entirely clear, but the Syrian warplanes had “done the impossible” in order to continue using it for sorties, the Observatory told Reuters.

It’s not clear if the jets that were able to take off were Russian or Syrian. From the AFP:

Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman could not specify whether they were Syrian or Russian planes, but said they were Sukhoi jets, which both Damascus and its ally Moscow use.
