In last night’s Democratic debate in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton attacked GOP front-runner Donald J. Trump by saying ISIS is using “videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists.”
A claim that numerous fact-checkers report just isn’t true:

Hillary Clinton lied when she said that "ISIS is using video of Donald Trump as a recruiting tool." This was fact checked by @FoxNews: FALSE

Over on ABC’s “This Week,”, Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri actually defended Clinton’s statement, although she did admit there’s no video:
On @ThisWeekABC, @jmpalmieri says Clinton was "not referring to a specific video" when she said ISIS uses videos of Trump to recruit
— Liz Kreutz (@ABCLiz) December 20, 2015
But, @jmpalmieri added, ISIS is using Trump in their social media https://t.co/AKwY3mXLq6

Clinton adviser John Podesta said roughly the same thing on “Meet the Press,” calling her statement at the debate “very fair” and saying Clinton stands by the comment:
Unbelievable. @johnpodesta just stood by @hillaryclinton lie about video about @realDonaldTrump in intv w/ @chucktodd. Pattern of deceit
— Hugh Hewitt (@hughhewitt) December 20, 2015
To be clear: @HillaryClinton said there was a video of @realDonaldTrump and @johnpodesta confirmed it. Lie.

News of the weekend is @johnpodesta doubling down on @HillaryClinton 2d false video narrative on @meetthepress, reigniting 1st set of lies
— Hugh Hewitt (@hughhewitt) December 20, 2015
Thanks sir. Astonished that she would invent another false video narrative and that @johnpodesta would stand by it https://t.co/gPI7C1xGen
— Hugh Hewitt (@hughhewitt) December 20, 2015
Well, maybe “astonished” is not quite the correct word here. “Expected” seems more like it.
