Watch out, reporters!
Proud “undocumented Filipino American” and director of MTV’s “White People” Jose Antonio Vargas is on the prowl for journalists who dare use the 100-percent accurate term “illegal” to describe people from other countries who illegally enter the United States.
Here he is complaining about the Washington Post’s Jerry Markon for Markon’s use of “#IllegalAlien” and “#illegals” in a series of tweets earlier this week:
Dear @washingtonpost: One of ur reporters is calling people #illegals, #illegalaliens. cc @jerrymarkon @PostBaron http://t.co/go3jydzfw7
— Jose Antonio Vargas (@joseiswriting) August 4, 2015
But don’t worry, reporters. Vargas doesn’t want to get you fired, or so he says:

No, not get him fired. People are not illegal. Actions are. Not people. #wordsmatter @defineamerican https://t.co/CVp87qyhQb

A quick search, however, indicates that Vargas has his work cut out for him as the Washington Post seems quite happy with the use of “illegal immigrant,” despite what Vargas thinks of it. Some examples:
3 things to know about illegal immigration as America debates sanctuary cities http://t.co/cxZHOpjcuO

U.S. sends illegal immigrants home on expensive charter flights that are largely empty http://t.co/pa4EB4b31e

Great @JerryMarkon piece that will be studiously ignored: "ilegal immigration falls to lowest level in 2 decades" http://t.co/ybrDL2wXUi

@ryanlcooper Because calling for tax hikes on rich is the equivalent of vowing to charge Mexico $25K per illegal immigrant.

Over to you, Jose. Start sending more angry tweets!
