President Donald Trump is taking some grief over this tweet where he said members of the media and their bad reporting “can also cause War!”:
The Fake News hates me saying that they are the Enemy of the People only because they know it’s TRUE. I am providing a great service by explaining this to the American People. They purposely cause great division & distrust. They can also cause War! They are very dangerous & sick!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 5, 2018
As you might imagine, members of the media are kinda pissed about it:
This is outrageous. I’m sorry, I don’t know what else to say to someone accusing me and my colleagues of causing war. I know he’s baiting us to respond. I’m taking the bait in hopes that rational folks realize this is wrong and dangerous. https://t.co/yhS3a8wEaU

Including Fox News’ Chris Wallace (John Bolton dodged FWIW):

Now for the flashback…
We remember when it was totally acceptable to accuse a reporter of leading the U.S. into war, which is exactly what Trump tweeted:

All the cool kids were saying it, remember?

She caused it don’t you know?
‘You literally caused the Iraq War’: Internet rips Judith Miller for blaming war deaths on Chelsea Manning https://t.co/ygiZEoyRUB pic.twitter.com/Nt8t9HbZXf

So when Trump says to blame reporters it’s bad, but not when Media Matters says it?

And it will be funny when Trump turns this against the media and their Iraq reporting, because he totally could do that if he wanted to and libs would have nothing to say:
On accountability in US journalism: Jim Risen wrote in his @theintercept article today that the *only* US journalist to pay any price for horrific pre-Iraq-War reporting was Judith Miller, who became a scapegoat for reasons people would rather not examine https://t.co/Vj7YRspBjJ pic.twitter.com/AT7BTVqyTd
