The Justice Department IG released a report this week that blistered James Comey, but as was proven on CNN today, the ex FBI director still has a friend in former DNI James Clapper, who said this:
"Yeah, it violated the standard protocols and procedures of the FBI. I don't think there’s a rulebook, though, for this extraordinary situation involving potential — I emphasize potential — criminality of a president." https://t.co/LXSghN6QMz

In other words, Comey broke some rules, but it’s just Trump so whatever!
“I think he was whistleblowing to the public,” ex-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper says after the Justice Department's inspector general said James Comey broke FBI policy by keeping and leaking Trump meeting memos https://t.co/jQ7jNvkxyL pic.twitter.com/ZS0QC2jyYR

How would Clapper or Comey like it if the intel community targeted them, violated protocols but then defended their actions by attributing it to an “extraordinary situation”?
Yes, every FBI agent should be free to violate civil rights and ignore procedure if they feel very strongly about any given case.

What could possibly go wrong? We seem to have already found out.
According to Clapper, the FBI can do whatever it wants, throw protocols out the window, if they think it's necessary. Terrible, terrible idea.

The only "extraordinary situation" was created by top Obama officials completely buying into unverified op research – the Steele dossier.
If these officials had stuck to the rulebook, they would have verified the information before acting on it.#MoreClapperSpin https://t.co/8EXPPLDPQL

Guy who lied to Congress and got away with it says what?

Why would FBI protocols be any different for this “extraordinary situation”?
And “potential criminality”? Did you miss Mueller time? ??? https://t.co/ciFsmb0aQO

Clapper saying that the “rulebook” can be tossed out the window if the subject is somebody they don’t like speaks volumes — none of it good.
