Members of the House Judiciary Committee questioned the CEO of Google yesterday, with Republicans wanting to know about evidence of anti-conservative bias at the company and Democrats accusing social media companies of enabling foreign entities to influence the 2016 election. However, Dem accusations that Google acted to the detriment of Hillary Clinton in 2016 don’t sound quite as believable in the wake of these questions from investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson:
I missed the Google hearing. Did anybody mention for context that in ‘16, Google’s parent Alphabet was Hillary’s top donor and was run by Eric Schmidt who offered himself up as a Hillary campaign adviser? And—

—And at the start of the election cycle, Google funded a nonprofit that coined the “crackdown on fake news” (which meant conservative interests) and was promoted by President Obama, Hillary and Media Matters before Trump ultimately co-opted the phrase?

Something else ended up being made abundantly clear at the hearing: Many in Congress are incredibly ignorant about some of the things they regulate or seek to regulate.
