'Shot at 13 times': Philadelphia officer survives 'attempted execution' after being ambushed in patrol car

A Philadelphia police officer is in stable condition after he was ambushed by an assailant who reportedly fired more than a dozen shots, three of which hit him:

A Philadelphia police officer was ambushed by a man while sitting in his marked cruiser, and was in stable condition Friday after being shot three times in his left arm, officials said.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross said the suspect fired 13 shots that hit Officer Jessie Hartnett and his car late Thursday. He said the officer returned fire, hitting his assailant at least three times.

A suspect is in custody, and the Philadelphia chief of police said it’s miraculous that the officer survived:
