The premiere of the “Roseanne” reboot on ABC received huge ratings, and actor Rob Lowe summed up why it resonated with so many people:
The secret to @therealroseanne massive ratings is that it celebrates people with huge political differences who are able to laugh and love together as they passionately disagree.
— Rob Lowe (@RobLowe) March 30, 2018
In some circles that’s actually possible.
Exactly. The issue isn't that the show caters to conservatives. It just gives them a seat at the table rather than pretending half of America is backwards or doesn't exist. https://t.co/4in7u3Lscl

Right on cue though, Lowe’s tweet about the “Roseanne” show brought out some hefty disagreement from the Trump-triggered. Brace yourselves:
I'm a fan of yours Rob, but this take right here is text book white privilege.

I'm sorry, but I can't sit and share laughs with someone who supports a man that actively tries to harm people I care about. https://t.co/wl9J50IwTA

I'm not able to laugh and love with anyone trying to destroy America, thanks.

#Roseanne attempts to normalize factlessness and the use of opinion as fact in a country that is being lead by a person who is the epitome of this state of being, a country that is in decline to the point of imminent collapse. #nothankyou

I knew he was like this. I just knew it. I like really knew it in my heart he was this kind of person. https://t.co/TIeXY2rTdx

Except when they want to shut down The Washington Post, pollute the environment, keep people from voting, and start an unnecessary war, yeah. https://t.co/yOBSActwid

Rob, your white privilege is BEAMING. These "political differences" have become human rights issues for most minorities, LGBT, disabled, etc. https://t.co/oYXeYlAmQy
— la nueva religión (@_cjeezus) March 31, 2018
Easy to say from the position of a man who has never had to fear for his life, safety, or financial security because of someone else's "politics". Hard to laugh and love with people who see you as less than human https://t.co/VqvU3ydSEG

I have no interest in laughing with people who think I deserve to be raped.
I have no interest in laughing with people who think LGBTQ people shouldn't exist.
I have no interest in laughing with people who think a child playing w/ a toy deserve to be murdered by police. https://t.co/P1bWM3a4nu— Sarah Marie (@ThroughABellJar) March 30, 2018
way to condone racism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, misogyny, and all kinds of other awful shit roseanne barr and people like her support and actively promote, mr. lowe. https://t.co/Yys6TE1Y3b

This is not just about "people with huge political differences." Clearly your work on the West Wing and with @AaronSorkin writing has taught you nothing! You just memorized lines? What's happening to US is not left vs right or @TheDemocrats vs @GOP. It's about right & wrong! 1/6 https://t.co/vOGl2EnOPD

While people are dying in the streets, families are being ripped apart, rights being subverted, daily scandals occuring, and a corrupt incompetent administration leading it all. These are not normal "political" times so stop making excuses for those who promote this chaos.
— lochelle (@lochelle1) March 31, 2018
Seriously? There’s a difference between different polical positions and the crap that she is spreading.
— AmieCrazyCat (@AmieMichael1) March 31, 2018
"passionately disagree" wtf? only a white man safe in wealth and privilege could believe this. would he say that hitler supporters during ww2 just "passionately disagreed" with the allies? mostly treasonous misogynistic white supremacists watched that bullshit propaganda. #resist https://t.co/U4tIcPiOob

Spreading batshit crazy conspiracy theories is not a mere political difference. It’s a dangerous form of weaponized ignorance.
— machiela (@joelmachiela) March 31, 2018
Obviously for many the ability to have huge political differences but still be able to love and laugh together is totally isolated to the show “Roseanne” and can’t happen in real life.
