With all that's going on in the world it's easy to not notice that one of the largest and most terrifying social experiments has been going on in Canada for the past several years. The Canadian 'Medical Assistance in Dying' program (MAiD) has been slowly but surely gaining speed in our neighbors to the north, with more and more eligible ailments being added all the time. Now Canada has released their numbers for how many Canadian citizens were killed by their own government and doctors last year... and it's a lot.
It's official. MAID caused more than 4% of all deaths in Canada in 2022—a total of 13,241 deaths. It's a stunning thirteenfold increase over just seven years.

If MAID was listed as an official cause of death, it would be effectively the 5th leading cause of death in Canada. https://t.co/35SnC1XilX pic.twitter.com/pLFLr4Go7B
5th place in cause of death! Only a few hundred more people were killed in 2022 by 'accidental death' than died by having the government 'assist' them in shuffling their way off this mortal coil. That seems not good.
Canada has a degree of efficiency in killing patients with euthanasia that's hard to grasp just in the numbers. It's rather repulsive. https://t.co/OUrdKOSAgg

An unsurprising result of government health care coupled with growing moral depravity. Government is incapable of seeing each person as having value regardless of their condition. No, instead we are reduced to a positive or negative budget line item.

MAID is just going to be a program for killing the elderly, infirm, and disabled. This was all justified as shortening the time people lived in their final agony. Now it’s offered by bullies who want you to be free to agree with them that your life is worthless. https://t.co/QbHL6E7LW1

We cannot value freedom and dignity as a society when we tolerate MAID as being the fifth-leading cause of death in Canada.

In no way can these all be medically necessary and dignified. Many disadvantaged and disabled Canadians are being forced onto a horrific path. https://t.co/4wVM6DwSWN
So-called "universal health care" is literally killing off customers to stay afloat. https://t.co/ZSUOFSUTBt

One of the major problems with trying to install a Jeremy Bentham style Utilitarian view on life is that you inevitably come face to face with the reality that in a Utilitarian sense an individual life has no value... which is hard to jibe with most other more empathetic ways of looking at the world. Once you've embraced people being only numbers with no real value outside of their impact on the financial bottom line of your government and economy bad things suddenly become more and more logical.
Canada seems to be well down this down this road, let's hope they can turn around before it gets much worse.
