To be honest, we don't know what to believe about the medical condition of Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, the 28-year-old Venezuelan national who was shot by ICE agents in Austin, Texas, on Sunday. The woman representing Perez posted on Monday that he was shot while making a DoorDash delivery, adding that "the hospital refused to give his wife access to him or provide any meaningful details on his condition." We do know that Rep. Ro Khanna was lying when he posted that Perez was "denied urgent medical care" — EMTs rushed him to a medical center, and ABC News reported that he was released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Khanna had gotten his version of the story from The Bulwark's Tim Miller, who posted, "Rather than getting him medical help, they carted him off to an ICE detention complex—and the bullet is still in his back."
On MS NOW's Morning Joe on Wednesday morning, Texas Senate candidate James Talarico informed us that Perez can't move the left side of his body and asked how paralyzing a DoorDash driver makes anyone safer.
