Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is just one Democrat who has signed onto fellow Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley's letter to "address these widespread modern-day lynchings and put a stop to this racial terror," noting that there have been 10 black people found dead by hanging in 2026 (the total is now 11, a case in Maryland, which has been ruled a suicide, as have nine of the other "lynchings"). The only outlier is a case in which not one, but two men have been arrested. Two black men. Headlines are guaranteed to point out that the victim was a black woman, but they keep the race of the suspects a mystery in their headlines. Even knowing that a suspect had been arrested, the Associated Press is trying to keep the lynching narrative alive with posts like this one:
