It's at times like these that I wish Townhall's Amy Curtis were still writing for Twitchy as a freelancer. She was our expert on Catholicism. She really knew her stuff. Me, I'm Catholic-adjacent. My wife is a converted Catholic, and we raised our kids Catholic and sent them to Catholic school. She converted after her brother converted after marrying a Catholic. My sister also married a Catholic and converted, so my five nieces and nephews are all Catholic, too.
I was happy not to be Catholic when Pope Francis was running the show, and I was hoping Pope Leo XIV would be a little less woke. He's been letting me down, too, though. On Sunday, he appealed for an end to the ongoing violence against the Palestinians and called on the international community to advance the two-state solution.
I renew my appeal for an end to the ongoing violence against the Palestinian civilian population in the West Bank, and I urgently call on the international community to work toward advancing the two-state solution, for a just and lasting peace.

Here's a very lengthy reply from Insurrection Barbie:
The following are all the years a two state solution was rejected:

1937
1947
2000
2000–2001
2008
2014
Who are you appealing to?
1948–1949: Arab-Israeli War. Israel declares independence. Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq declare war immediately afterward.…
The post continues:
… 1950–1955: Repeated Palestinian fedayeen infiltration and attacks from neighboring territory.
1956: Sinai/Suez War amid escalating Egyptian-Israeli conflict, fedayeen attacks and the blockade of Israeli shipping.
1957–1966: Continuing border infiltrations, shootings, raids and Syrian-Israeli clashes. Even the UN’s own history describes 1950–1967 as an “insecure peace” repeatedly punctuated by violence and force.
1967: Six-Day War. Egypt expelled the UN force from Sinai and massed troops there, closed the Straits of Tiran; war ensued after which Jordan and Syria entered the war.
1968–1970: War of Attrition, particularly along the Suez Canal. U.S. records expressly identify the 1969–70 War of Attrition as another Arab-Israeli war period.
1971–1972: Palestinian militant attacks continue, including the 1972 Munich massacre of Israeli Olympic athletes.
1973: Yom Kippur War. Egypt and Syria launch a surprise attack on Israel.
1974–1977: Continuing PLO cross-border terrorism and attacks.
1978: Coastal Road massacre.
Palestinian militants kill dozens of Israeli civilians.
1979–1981: PLO attacks
1983–1986: Continuing Palestinian and Lebanese-based terrorism and border attacks.
1987–1993: First Intifada. Hamas is founded in 1987 and joins the terrorism.
1994–1999: Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad conduct a major suicide-bombing campaign during the Oslo peace process.
2000–2005: Second Intifada. Suicide bombings, shootings and other attacks produce one of the deadliest sustained terror campaigns Israel had experienced.
2005: Israel removes all settlements and its permanent military presence from Gaza.
2006: Hamas and allied militants attack near Kerem Shalom and kidnap Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Hezbollah crosses Israel’s northern border, kills and kidnaps Israeli soldiers, triggering the Second Lebanon War.
2007: Hamas violently takes control of Gaza. Rocket attacks on southern Israel continue.
2008–2009: Large-scale Hamas rocket fire and Gaza War.
2010: Gaza rocket and mortar attacks continue.
2011: Rocket attacks, including escalation from Gaza; cross-border terrorist attack near Eilat.
2012: Hamas starts war.
2013: Rocket attacks and other Palestinian terrorism continue.
2014: Hamas starts war.
2015: Major stabbing, shooting and vehicle-ramming terror wave begins.
2016: Stabbings, shootings and vehicle attacks continue.
2017: Shooting, stabbing and vehicular terrorist attacks continue.
2018: Gaza border violence, incendiary attacks, rockets and mortars.
2019: Multiple major Gaza rocket escalations.
2020: Terror attacks continue despite a comparatively quieter Gaza front. Israel records both West Bank/Jerusalem attacks and rocket fire from Gaza that year.
2021: Hamas fires thousands of rockets toward Israel during the May war.
2022: Major Palestinian shooting and stabbing attacks, including a wave against Israeli cities.
2023: Palestinian terrorism continues through the year, culminating in October 7, the Hamas-led invasion, mass killing and hostage-taking.
2024: Hamas war continues; Hezbollah fires from Lebanon; Iran launches a massive direct missile/drone attack on Israel in April and another ballistic-missile attack in October.
2025: Palestinian terrorism and attacks from Iranian-backed groups continue amid the wider regional war.
2026: Attacks and regional fighting have continued into the present period.
They just want a two-state solution, though.
How about you end the violence against Christians in Nigeria , speak up for your own who are being raped & pillaged in every Islamic nation
— Tommy Robinson 🇬🇧 (@TRobinsonNewEra) August 16, 2026
I would think you’d have more concern over the 500,000 Christians slaughtered in Nigeria, by people who follow the same ideology as those trying to destroy Israel.
— Stefanco (@AncoSj) August 16, 2026
Please tell me this is a fucking joke. Holy shit. Not one single word about Palestinian terrorism. Not one word about October 7, 2023. There will NEVER be a two-state solution. This idea died when Palestinians invaded our land and slaughtered 1,200 innocent people. Disgraceful.
— Vivid.🇮🇱 (@VividProwess) August 16, 2026
You should ask the Muslims in Gaza if they support a two-state solution, or if they would prefer to just eliminate all the Jews from the face of the earth.
— Jaimee Michell (@JaimeeUSA) August 16, 2026
For two states to work, Palestinians have to agree to peace. Have you ever called on Palestinians to stop their violence and make peace?
— David Boxenhorn (@davidboxenhorn) August 16, 2026
The “Palestinians” have consistently rejected ANY and ALL two state solutions. The problem is that the “Palestinians” want to destroy Israel. They aren’t interested in peace. They are interested in genocide.
— Piedmont Tilly (@Oscarthedodle) August 16, 2026
And they admit it.
If you were at all honest, you would call for the Palestinians to stop attacking Israel as well. Get them to stop tunneling, stop firing rockets and more.
— Dan Gainor (@dangainor) August 16, 2026
Why the hell would Israel reward October 7 with statehood? That's demented.

Did the Pope's intern post this? I really hope so. Again, I'm not Catholic, so whatever the Pope says isn't relevant to my faith, but I really had hopes for this guy. How about calling for a new Crusade in Europe? I could get on board with that.
