UK Classifies 'Cultural Nationalism' as an Extreme Right-Wing Terrorist Ideology

AP Photo/Matt Dunham, FILE

I wrote a post the other day ridiculing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for saying her favorite part of Secretary of State Marco Rubio's address to the Munich Security Conference was when he claimed that cowboys were rooted in Spain. "Uhhh, speak to Mexicans and African slaves!" she continued. Plenty of people were happy to set straight a woman named Cortez who didn't know that Cortez brought horses to the New World.

That was the headline, but what really got me about AOC's ramblings is when she said that "Rubio's speech was a pure appeal to Western culture," and she put finger-quotes around Western culture. Does she think that there's no such thing as Western culture? And she said this in Europe. Europe's governments might be doing their best to erase Western culture, but it's a real thing, and no one pretended it wasn't until recently.

I write a lot about the U.K., and DogeDesigner found this on the official U.K. government website on a page about terrorist ideologies. Listed first is "extreme right-wing," which has three common subcategories. There is, of course, white supremacism, or the belief that the white race is biologically, culturally, and spiritually superior to all other races. Then there's white ethno-nationalism, which believes that mass migration from the "non-white world" poses an existential threat to Western culture.

And speaking of Western culture, there is also the creeping terror of "cultural nationalism," or the belief that "Western culture" (in quotes) is under threat by mass migration and a lack of integration by certain ethnic and cultural groups.

The U.K. government is very protective of its asylum-seekers, with the police announcing last summer the assembly of an elite team of police officers to monitor social media for "anti-migrant sentiment" in a new investigations unit to "flag early signs of potential civil unrest." As I say all the time in these posts, the U.K. government hammers on the Southport riots no differently than the Democrats hammer on January 6, the one time a right-wing protest got out of hand.

Is it just me, or is the fact that they put "Western culture" in quotation marks proof that there is such a thing as Western culture, and they'd like to rid themselves of it? Notice, too, how Western culture and white supremacy are bundled under the "extreme right-wing" terrorist ideology.

Which brings me back to AOC in Munich. As much as we've been lectured about "whiteness" in the United States, she declared that whiteness was imaginary, but that cultural nationalism was real: "Being German is real. Being Italian is real. You know, being English. These are rich cultural heritages that are based on values, and they are so much a part of what makes our cultures and our societies what they are."

So, according to AOC, being English is real. But you're an extreme right-wing terrorist if you suggest that England's "rich cultural heritage" is being compromised by unfettered mass migration from mostly Muslim countries by people with no intention of sharing your values or assimilating into your culture.

England is doomed.
