Teen Who Stabbed Another Teen in the Heart May Use Donations to Move to a Gated Community

AngieArtist

I'm really surprised that this story isn't getting more mainstream media attention. As I wrote back on April 3, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was stabbed in the heart at a high school track meet in Texas; he reportedly told another teen, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, that he was sitting in the wrong seat.

Anthony was released yesterday after a judge reduced his bond from $1 million to $250,000.

… revealed that he was the "captain of the football and track teams."

He worked at Foot Locker for two years and was the oldest of three siblings, according to the family.

During the hearing, prosecutors revealed that there was a separate "altercation" involving Anthony on February 4 at school.

The family said they don't have access to the GiveSendGo money, explaining that "it isn't as simple as giving a phone call to access it."

If released, Anthony will be placed on house arrest.

He's been released.

I can't find a link to a fundraiser for Anthony on GoFundMe — it appears they actually applied their rule against violent crimes, which they instituted when people started raising money for Kyle Rittenhouse's defense, so it's being raised on GiveSendGo. Still, I keep seeing reports that another fundraiser has pulled in more than $420,000 … more than $100,000 more than has been donated to the Metcalf family.

"I'm not alleged, I did it," Anthony said. He also asked if Metcalf was going to be OK after he died in his twin's arms.

What do you mean, "intentions"? He pulled out a knife and stabbed another kid in the chest.

Word today is that the money from the fund will be used to move the Anthony family into a gated community, due to "racist threats" he's received since killing Metcalf.

Huh. The Sun reports:

He said the cash would be used for security to protect Anthony after he reportedly received racist threats since the stabbing.

Andrew also said the family plans to move into a new house for extra safety.

Anthony's lawyers insisted the money raised online "is not a bond fund" and that the family needs the funds to get by because Anthony's dad is currently on leave from his job.

"This family needs to be able to survive," defense attorney Mike Howard said, according to Fox affiliate KDFW.

"There’s been a tremendous amount of pressure. I think at this point, living in a gated community, given everything, the safety of their younger children is very warranted.

"This family needs to be able to survive"? What about Metcalf? He didn't survive a knife to the heart at a track meet.

I can't believe — well, actually I can — that this Jay'V guy thinks that Anthony asking if the teen he'd stabbed in the chest was "going to be OK" makes the murder not so bad. A lot of people have spoken with their wallets that they think Anthony should get off without consequences. After all, they've donated $420,000 to a kid who brought a knife to a track meet.

I'm not seeing a lot of coverage of this story. The Sun picked it up, as did Fox News and USA TODAY.

I went to cnn.com and did a search for Karmelo Anthony and got 521 results … none of which were about the stabbing.

I predicted this story wasn't going to get much traction in the legacy media.
