USAID’s Samantha Power Describes Being Laid Off to Rachel Maddow

Our own Warren Squire reports that USAID has slashed its workforce from more than 10,000 to 290. It's always sad when someone loses their job, but it's a little less sad when it's a lifetime bureaucrat for the federal government. Nobody gets fired from the federal government … until now.

Everyone's out the door by midnight Friday.

John Podhoretz says that NBC News reported that federal workers were living an "Orwellian nightmare."

It's a good thing that Joe Biden created 16 million new jobs.

Unmasker and former USAID administrator Samanta Power went on Maddow to talk about the layoffs.

Being let go sucks. My last gig was at a very large accounting firm, and one day half the staff were told to turn in their laptops and be out of the building by noon. I survived that purge, but eventually was let go. I made it 11 years.

… at up to $30 million. How does a government job multiply wealth like that?

Her salary at USAID was 180,000 annually.

She'll be all right.

This feeling is like when a cable newscaster is let go. All Power has to do is start up a Substack and a podcast and she'll be able to make ends meet.
