Twitter is a much less fun place than it was a couple of months ago, as it’s now mostly infighting between Team Trump and Team DeSantis. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be the battleground: President Donald Trump stood with Anthony Fauci and shut the country down, but Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis shut down Florida.
We realize that Trump is attacking “Ron DeSanctimonious” from the Left, but it’s a little unbelievable that he seems to be suggesting New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had a better response to the coronavirus than DeSantis. Cuomo’s lucky to have been drummed out of office over sexual harassment allegations before he had to answer for New York undercounting COVID deaths.
On Tuesday, Trump “Truthed” that New York had fewer deaths.
No way to read this other than Trump thinks DeSantis should have locked down harder pic.twitter.com/HUcK8F8UHb

What happened to the vaunted "fact check" industry, which used to analyze his every utterance?
🤔

We should not be surprised that the president who handed over the country to Anthony Fauci is praising the disastrous COVID response by New York's disgraced governor, Andrew Cuomo. pic.twitter.com/FUb7qGQIQo

And no matter how many smears you try to push about me (a campaign staffer) it does not change the fact that this 👇 happened and you have no response to assure Americans it won’t happen again. https://t.co/6KaSyvbytj

Not to mention he is talking in absolute numbers rather than population adjusted which is intentionally misleading and disingenuous

I can’t imagine Trump is normalizing for age disparities.
— jason.wadlington.72 (@72Wadlington) May 30, 2023
He's not. Florida, when controlled for age, isn't even near the top. From "outbreak" til the end of 2022, Florida is 31st.

I think he’s literally trying to lose

If the beaches were closed, who was that clown running around in the Grim Reaper outfit threatening everyone with certain death?
It's Trump on policy. He's going to criticize him both ways.
For not locking down hard enough but also for locking down too hard at the same time.
— Bukayo Saka Liker (@3k_) May 30, 2023
I read it just like he wrote it. Florida had more deaths than New York so in retrospect Cuomo did better. Hate to bring facts to the table but it is true.
— HOOCH23.hbar (@LebronNft) May 30, 2023
Trump really thinks people don't remember President Fauci's 30 days to slow the spread? Florida "locked down" for a month, open by the beginning of May.
Trump is schizophrenic.

Dangerous messaging that will result in codifying lockdowns as an appropriate pandemic response.
— Stinson Norwood (@snorman1776) May 30, 2023
At the time, lockdowns did make sense to a lot of us. There was so much we didn’t know about the coronavirus and there was no vaccine. In retrospect, it’s easy to fight over who had the worse response to the pandemic. DeSantis locked down, but he opened the state up again in short order. But suggesting that Cuomo somehow did a better job is ridiculous.
