As Twitchy reported earlier, Christina Pushaw was wondering where is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ apology now that the New York Times is finally admitting that “the mask mandates did nothing.”
Today, the New York Times published a Forbidden Fact.
It only took them THREE YEARS.
Now, where does @GovRonDeSantis get his apology?

Writer David Zweig, who sounds like he’s owed an apology from NPR, makes a very good point: the New York Times decided to run an opinion piece to break the news that mask mandates didn’t work. How about a news article in the Science section? You might think that a science editor at the Times would be inspired to put together an up-to-date news article about mask mandates.
The remarkable thing here is that the only way the most prestigious data review on community masks – which found no clear evidence of benefit – made it into the paper of record was in an opinion piece
The NYT Science desk did not deem it newsworthyhttps://t.co/7zeFP5CW5f

When I first challenged CDC's claims about the benefits of school masking, in August 2021, I was maligned, by an NPR reporter, among others, as a contrarian and agenda driven. But I was correct, because I read the studies and saw the evidence was garbagehttps://t.co/r2nYIHVPNj

That was the sort of talk that would get you suspended from Twitter back in 2021.
You were & are a brave journalist, doing what made journalism honorable – seeking truth no matter the cost & doing so through difficult, unbiased analysis.
You deserve apologies, but don’t hold your breath. Nevertheless, thank you! I hope you can lead a charge to heal journalism

At least the science desk is consistent.
They’ve also shown no interest in investigating the spring 2020 mass mortality event in NYC hospitals

The Times went so hard for masks for so long I don’t see how they can admit being wrong. Still shocked even opinion would run Bret’s piece.

Nor any policy writers.
You’d think a study related to the most contentious COVID policy short of vaccine mandates would warrant some coverage.
Incredibly disheartening to witness the essential polarization of a publication I long respected.

I'm sure they know it's newsworthy…for all the wrong reasons: it contradicts years of "news" stories insisting they work.

No one’s giving back their Pulitzer prizes for investigating President Trump’s collusion with Russia either.
Right – that is what is important here. It's not a case where the NYT itself is "admitting" something, as some others here have said. Stephens is an opinion columnist & this is his take. And it is much to be regretted that the NYT decided not to cover the Cochrane report as news.
— Peter Godfrey-Smith (@pgodfreysmith) February 22, 2023
The Washington Post also ignored the Cochrane study, the only coverage is in an opinion piece.https://t.co/O2qRkh6uSP

They've become very skilled at ignoring science they don't like. I seem to recall that they ignored the evidence you dug up over a year ago too.

Oh I’m sure my friends are all going to apologize to me over this…

Masks were the pivotal test of compliance.
When governments saw how easy it was to get the public to do something as stupid, useless, degrading, and dehumanizing as wearing a mask, they knew they could get them to do anything.— O.C. Stiggs (@FireUpElQuattro) February 22, 2023
The important thing is that Americans are still free to wear three or four masks if they so choose.
