Biden administration strongly supports Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair Act of 2022

And to think that Miami Herald journalist thought that Fox News couldn’t talk about the death of their cameraman in Ukraine and inflation in the United States on the same day. It’s possible to be concerned about two things at once. Look at the Biden administration: it has to contend with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, inflation, and discrimination against people with cornrows or Afros. That’s why it came out strongly Tuesday in support of the CROWN Act (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair).

The bill “would prohibit discrimination based on hair texture and protective hairstyles that are commonly associated with a particular race or national origin, including locs, cornrows, braids, twists, Bantu knots, and Afros.” “The President believes that no person should be denied the ability to obtain a job, succeed in school or the workplace, secure housing, or otherwise exercise their rights based on a hair texture or hair style,” reads the statement. For the record, the bill was presented by Rep. Watson Coleman and 116 cosponsors.

The statement also reminds us that “the President also signed Executive Order 14020 Establishing the White House Gender Policy Council, and mandating the release of the first-ever U.S. government strategy to address gender equity and equality.”
