President Biden poked his head out in front of the press Wednesday to talk about the FDA’s approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. San Francisco, which already has vaccination mandates in place for those 12 and over, is estimating it will be about eight weeks after the vaccine becomes available to 5- to 11-year-olds for the same mandates to go into effect. So if you’re taking your young kids out to dinner in San Francisco, you’d better remember to bring their vaccine cards.
San Francisco becomes the first jurisdiction in the world to mandate EUA vaccination for all 5-11 year olds.
In ~8 weeks, all children ages 5+ will be required to carry proof of full vaccination in order to dine in a restaurant with family, take swimming lessons, and more: pic.twitter.com/GRf2pBlp0r

In a public “town hall” tonight, SFDPH announced that vaccine card requirements to enter indoor spaces will be expanded to include ***all 5-11 year olds** eight weeks after on-the-ground availability. (Clip I trimmed from previous tweet is ~55:50-56:30.) https://t.co/ad8kFN7Yo7

All of this despite explicit warning from CDC panelists this week and last that the 5-11 EUA **should not be immediately mandated** for a number of very very very specific reasons.

Kindergarteners will need proof of full vaccination for rote participation in public life in SF. In a matter of weeks, and in direct departure from deliberate, recent CDC and FDA panel warnings against doing just this.
And everyone here is just like, “Yep sounds good! 😎”

WH advisors and Dem midterm strategists: consider putting pressure on these nuts to ix-nay mandatory covid vaccines for 5 y/os to exist in public life.
GOP noise machine will have a field day hyping a looming specter coming for kids. This would be WILDLY unpopular nationally.

Forget about it being ethically questionable in addition to being specifically warned against by CDC and FDA panelists—this stuff polls realllly realllly poorly outside of a small handful of uniquely deranged locales.
Imagine the Tucker Carlson segments! And it’ll all be true!

This has now been confirmed by the SF Chronicle, for anyone doubting what I’ve said here:https://t.co/e1PTxvuWal

Reminder that there have been 13 total pediatric hospitalizations and zero virus-related deaths under age 20 in San Francisco the entirety of COVID. @SF_DPH won’t answer why this is justified because they can’t. https://t.co/tSIUT4otkh

It’s not dark web stuff to say that not only is this shot unnecessary for the vast majority of kids, it also most definitely should not rushed into the arms of healthy kids. https://t.co/FcksqrQ0fi

“the FDA said that Pfizer’s trial wasn’t large enough to detect extremely rare side effects, including myocarditis that’s been observed after 2nd dose, particularly in younger men and teenage boys. Just over 1,500 children ages 5 to 11 received the vaccine in the Pfizer trial.”
— Laura Fagan (@laurajfagan) November 3, 2021
“It remains unclear what effect the vaccine would have on transmission, and Pfizer’s trial in kids wasn’t designed to study that.”
— Laura Fagan (@laurajfagan) November 3, 2021
It’s as the FDA panelist said: we’ll never learn how safe the COVID vaccine is for kids age 5-11 until we start giving it.
There are some days that I am very glad that I left the Bay Area and moved home.

Take control. Home school. Move states. Your choice.

Impressive, we've found the vaccine mandate that goes too far for me. And I'm pretty much a pro-vaccine extremist!
— Tom Clarke (@tomeclarke) November 3, 2021
The OSHA mandate was the first I had any objection to. This is the second. It's hard to imagine this is going to be popular even in SF.

Even LA Unified thinks they need to see more data first. LA Unified.

This isn’t even SFUSD. This is the city, to sit down and have an ice cream sundae inside with your family. Just rote participation in public life.

This is crazy.

How can there not be checks and balances on these health commissioners? How is so much power ingrained in so few people? Is this still under an (almost) 2 year emergency power? How can such big changes be done without real legislation?

This is exactly how you cause more social division and conflict for absolutely no reason at all. We will study these events in social history as breaking points. I am sorry for our children who will have to survive in the world we are creating with these policies.

And they’ll still be masked. Always masks. Of course masks. The hegemony of the mask will reign supreme.

The residents of the city voted for this, now they get the consequences.
