It almost as if we’ve heard this story somewhere before, but we can’t quite place it. According to the New York Times Magazine, Andrea Smith, a prominent academic, was found to have faked her Cherokee ancestry even after calling out white feminists for co-opting her Native culture. She’s been exposed, but still, her career in academia continues to thrive — how is that possible?
