We’re not sure we care what Phil Berk has to say; apparently, he was formerly the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group behind the Golden Globes. We’re also not sure what angle the Los Angeles Times is going for with its tweet in which it breaks the news that Berk, in an email, called Black Lives Matter co-founder and real estate magnate Patrice Cullors a “self-described ‘trained Marxist'” — which isn’t new information.
Exclusive: An email sent by a former president of the group behind the Golden Globes has caused a backlash within the organization.
We have obtained a copy of the message. Here's what it said.

The email from Phil Berk, who served 8 terms as Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. president, called BLM a “racist hate movement.”
And the email described BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors as a “self-proclaimed ‘trained Marxist.’” More:https://t.co/gHYDNKmkSl

“Self-proclaimed” is exactly right.

BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors is a self-proclaimed trained Marxist.
— Clersus (@clersus) April 20, 2021
But she is a trained Marxist. All three women said so themselves so where's the lie?
— Garvery FlatbushKidd (@DatFlatbushKidd) April 20, 2021
That's rather hard to dispute while she and the group described themselves exactly the same on their website.
— Don C. Williams, Jr. (@blackdontrump) April 20, 2021
Didn’t Cullors admit herself that she is a trained Marxist?
— Jason Jordan ? (@jasonjordan2814) April 20, 2021
She is a self-proclaimed trained Marxist.
— Dainon Jensen (@duckinfantry) April 20, 2021
She is – and has admitted it.

I mean he is not wrong. She is a true Marxist – enrich oneself with an ideology while the community she wants to uplift continue to be downtrodden and be victims of police brutality https://t.co/MM62YlLAaM
— Jack “Protagonist” (@lowfloatjack) April 20, 2021
He apologized.
Weak.
— Karshanka (@KarshV3) April 20, 2021
What’s weak is the Los Angeles Times trying to present the self-proclaimed trained Marxist claim as something newsworthy. We’re pretty certain the reporters haven’t looked into Black Lives Matter closely enough to know that’s absolutely true.
