Not always, but a lot of the time, a person will protect their account after tweeting a particularly hot take that drew a lot more attention than they were expecting. Broadway dancer Samantha Pollino has protected her account after noting that the media is making a big deal of Tom Brady, whose friendship with President Trump didn’t sideline his career. On the other hand, look what happened to Colin Kaepernick, one of the greatest quarterbacks of our generation.
protected tweets, but the List comes for all, @peanutpollino.

Here’s Twitter’s explanation for why “Kaepernick” was trending Monday:
That is A LOT of legwork to explain why something is trending. pic.twitter.com/IgmFN4DyiQ

They just can’t quit Trump.
One of these quarterbacks opted out of their contracts, that would be a start.
— Kyle Beckley (@Kyle_Beckley) January 25, 2021
Also conveniently leaves out that Brady is a 14 time pro-bowler, 10 time super bowl QB, and is top five all time in every possible metric. Kaepernick, on the other hand, was a below average starter with more interceptions than touchdowns in his last season. Soooo…

The first step is to stop rewriting history and remember before kneeling Kap was benched for Tim Rattay (who is that, am I right?) and then opted out of his last year with SF. He was done. Why bother with all the hot takes for a below average back up QB?
— Mike Romeo 3 (@mikeromeotres) January 25, 2021
Kap was already riding the bench when he started his attention seeking activism
— Mario (@Marioisbald) January 25, 2021
Exactly right, and he’s content with his Nike deal and has no interest in playing or trying out despite all the faux outrage
— Frank C (@wankers_r_us) January 26, 2021
Yes, yes…the only difference between Brady and Kaepernick is their politics. pic.twitter.com/I5WLJL85rQ

“What’s definitely NOT a factor in their football careers, though, is how good they are at football.”
— Elizabeth (@katja136) January 26, 2021
Making it to 10 Super Bowls has an interesting way of not derailing your career
— Alvaroidz (@Alvaroidz) January 25, 2021
Isn’t Brady also an all time great player while Kaepernick is not considered one?
— Will Stevenson (@Will3316) January 25, 2021
It's gonna be 2028 and we're gonna still be listening to ppl say "so and so has an NFL backup job but Kap is just sitting at home!"
— Psaki Bomb (@Sowzees) January 25, 2021
He made himself exit the league. So tired of people not knowing why he's no longer playing. The dude turned down contracts from teams. He didn't want to play. He made millions from Nike. It's a horrible comparison.
— StonkBroker (@WizardLate) January 25, 2021
Kaep is an overrated prima donna who needed a team built around him to gain modest success. Brady has, with radically different lineups, won multiple championships.
— Dungeonmaster Jim (@DMJim) January 26, 2021
Colin Kaepernick also regressed a lot after that Super Bowl. I could explain to someone, as could any sensible football fan, why Kaepernick doesn’t belong as a starter in the NFL without bringing up his politics.
— James Helm (@JamesHelm27) January 25, 2021
Colin Kaepernick was essentially a 2 year wonder in the NFL, which is the worst case scenario for everyone because people can make the argument that he's either an amazing player, or a terrible one based on their personal politics.
— Omania (16-2) (@Omaniamania) January 25, 2021
No one sober can possibly make the argument that he was an amazing player. He had one and a half good season (in a very strong team with a super defense) and then he was benched by Blaine Gabbert.
— Sarre Baldassarri (@sarregoeswest) January 25, 2021
I feel like there may be some legitimate arguments available to those who feel Kaepernick has been wronged. Then they say some shit like this and it’s just so incredibly stupid and invalidating.
— Scott ?️? (@ScottyScoop) January 25, 2021
"Arguably leading to his exit" is a weird way to say "having literally nothing to do with the exit by any provable measure whatsoever"
— St. J (@verylovedembryo) January 25, 2021
And to beat it all, perhaps it wasn't really trending to begin with
— N.W.O. Wolfpac, LEED AP BD+C (@ScaaronTheOwler) January 25, 2021
Narrator: it wasn’t actually trending
— Andrew Kloster (@ARKloster) January 25, 2021
PUBLISHER. Not a platform. What more evidence do you need?
— Tom Craig (@tommytcizzle) January 26, 2021
So many of Twatter's trends are "some" or "some people are".
So, like, three dozen people.
Yeah let's get that trending.
— 99.98% Duke Canuck ? (@duke_canuck) January 25, 2021
Someone behind the controls at Twitter must have thought that was a good tweet that needed more attention.
