Watch: Canadian sportscaster fired for 'poppy rant' urging immigrants to pony up for Remembrance Day

Well, the headline at the BBC reads, “Canadian hockey pundit fired for poppy rant,” so we guess it was a rant. Ice hockey commentator Don Cherry was asked to step down immediately after his “rant,” in which he urged Canadians to buy a Remembrance Day poppy — and some say targeted immigrants in his comments: “you love our milk and honey,” he said, “at least you can pay a couple of bucks for poppies.

Here’s the statement from Sportsnet announcing his firing:

“During the broadcast, he made divisive remarks that do not represent our values or what we stand for.”
