TV station thinks better of portraying Republican women as simply skirts, legs, and heels

We at Twitchy get what it’s like to have to find a graphic to accompany every post. A good meme will usually do, but once in a while, we dig into the Associated Press archives to see what’s available. We just did a search for “Republican women” and ended up with a bunch of photos of John Boehner, so that wasn’t helpful.

NBC Chicago was looking for a photo to go with its piece on more Republican women than ever running for office, but they realized pretty quickly that they’d made a poor choice by going with a shot of elephant skirts and heels.

Wow, @nbcchicago just deleted this tweet after portraying Republican women as nothing more than skirts, legs, and heels. pic.twitter.com/xb7WB3PoLy

Hi, the legs on the furthest left are mine. I’m more than a cute skirt and nude heels. Instead of showing the faces of us, you show our other halves. My name is Caroline Craig, I’m a proud Republican, and I’m more than my legs. @FFL_of_America pic.twitter.com/Gw3o9hRAwa

Oh they deleted it. How cute. Maybe they found out conservative women actually have torsos.

Kudos for this response.

Additionally, y'all could make a fortune selling those skirts in Alabama.

I appreciate the new photo but where is the apology to those of us who were in the photo? @nbcchicago https://t.co/MO6xIyvouh

. @CeeJayCraig dunked on NBC Chicago harder than Scottie Pippen when he walked over Patrick Ewing https://t.co/ZlfZwDOO2J pic.twitter.com/WEr4tQhpE5

These women pictured are our members at a political conference, but this photo is absolutely the WRONG photo to use to highlight the historic number of Republican women running for office.

Do better. https://t.co/ibTQQ5p5pt

They deleted the tweet & reposted with a different photo, but I’d just like to say:

The fact that a photo of legs in skirts and pumps was used to cover a story on GOP women RUNNING FOR OFFICE is a blatant attempt at sexualizing and infantilizing conservative women. It’s gross. pic.twitter.com/Kupd8QWy1B

As one of the women in the original photo, it’s absolutely disgusting to me that someone would try to reduce women who are doing something historic (running for office in record breaking numbers) to a photo of completely unrelated women (the @FFL_of_America ladies) in skirts.

Hell hath no fury like Republican women scorned.

— Future Female Leaders (@FFL_of_America) August 26, 2019

Sorry that the tweet objectified you. It really was inappropriate as you are more than just legs (and identical skirts).

What are three things about the last three years makes you a proud Republican?

Tax reform, criminal justice reform, and ISIS is WASWAS. https://t.co/KWKo8rtCu4
