Normally we wouldn’t take an unverified Twitter user at her word, but Ashley St. Clair has in her Twitter bio, “Amy Schumer is not funny,” so we know she’s brutally honest. It sounds believable to us; what do you think?
I had to take a 2 hour long Uber ride this week. About an hour into the trip, she starts asking about what I do. I avoid telling people I don’t know well & simply answered “politics.”
She replied by saying “Tell me you don’t support Trump or I won’t finish this trip.”

Would the driver have actually stopped and kicked out her fare? Maybe … but even the possibility is ridiculous.
Why is this normalized? Why has it become acceptable to discriminate based on political affiliation?
I’m a young, cute girl and if she had cancelled the trip halfway, I would’ve been stranded in the middle of nowhere Texas all because I believe in making America great again.

I had to HIDE the fact that I’m conservative to avoid a terribly unsafe situation.
The left is getting uglier and uglier and it will only get worse the closer we get to 2020.
— Ashley StClair ?? (@stclairashley) June 10, 2019
So sorry that you (or anyone) has to deal with that! Lots of bigoted close-minded people out there nowadays— I’d always rather deal with someone who strongly disagreed with me but was still decent to others, rather than someone on “my side” who isn’t tolerant of other viewpoints.

A part of me wants to tell you to have the courage to be transparent. However, I’ve seen what happens to the transparent, and I don’t blame you for hiding. I’m treating everyone like it’s 1984 these days. Hiding “Thought Crimes” is tough.

In 2016 I had a barista ask me who I voted for after the election and said she wouldnt going to serve me if I voted for Trump. Last time I stopped in there ?

So you have to bake a cake for gays but you don't have to serve conservatives? Sounds like the left.
— SouthernGirl (@redpack57) June 10, 2019
You can report her to Uber and they will email her and remind her that she could face deactivation if she does that again.

1-star and report. That's a bunch of crap!
— Rik M (@MrRikmoreno) June 10, 2019
Hope you left a terrible review
— S.M. (@samille53) June 10, 2019
I would have said no I’m not but please end this ride and let me out.
I don’t want a ride with a driver who is small minded and doesn’t like differing opinions or diversity of thought.
— LeaningLibertarian (@1776Libertarian) June 10, 2019
Their job is to drive you, your political views should never have come into play. Ridiculous.
— Zara-Blue Barry (@FitnessByBlue) June 10, 2019
Sounds like a liberal
— Nate Garn (@nsgarn) June 10, 2019
Classic example of leftists practicing tolerance.
— Richard B Riddick (@RichardBRiddic2) June 10, 2019
Perhaps the driver meant it as a joke? Which wouldn’t be the end of the world. That’s the problem right now. Both sides are getting over dramatic about everything.
— Tony (@AKGallant) June 10, 2019
I'm pretty sure even if you told her the truth that you do support President Trump she couldn't end the ride based off political affiliation. That would be targeted harassment and I would bet that Uber would have a major issue with her if she just ended the ride and left you

Oh, the hate is real. It’s not even hate though, it’s tactic.
— Bohannon Sharif Smith (@BohannonSharif) June 10, 2019
I saw some tweet you made recently about being in DFW area. It caught my eye because that's where I live. Damned shame if the ride was from there. This is a really good community, and I'd hate for some leftist lunatic to be making us look bad.

Texans would’ve taken care of you but it’s too hot for this mess. And so wrong. @Uber_Support

Someone threatened my life last week for wearing the hat on the right…. needless to say they never actually read the hat just assumed what it said. pic.twitter.com/7HfaamBfFT

Have had the same type of thing happen. So, so strange. Getting along fine until the subject of politics comes up. Then, poof, I'm done with you. period.
— Tenaj (@Tenaj39239275) June 10, 2019
I drive for Lyft. Sometimes Uber. I avoid discussing politics because I don’t want a bad rating. You would have to be pretty bad to get thrown out of my car on a two hour trip. That money is too good.

Next time take a taxi and they will leave you to your business without asking questions.
— TheNightDoc1351 (@Doctor13511) June 10, 2019
10/10 advice here. I've never understood why these ride share services want to talk up a storm.
— Chris (@Enurgyzer) June 10, 2019
Silence is golden.
— Richard (@matdicdad) June 10, 2019
A lot of people are saying the story is fake, but Uber seems to be taking it seriously:
We're sorry to hear about your experience on this trip, @stclairashley. Kindly provide us the time of the trip and phone number attached in your Uber account via DM, so we can further assist.
