Here’s yet another post about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but here’s the thing: she already has a demonstrated habit of setting up straw men in her tweets and then bravely knocking them down. Why is Salon even talking about a double-standard being applied to Ocasio-Cortez and Paul Ryan? Because, as always, she brought it up herself:
Double standards are Paul Ryan being elected at 28 and immediately being given the benefit of his ill-considered policies considered genius; and me winning a primary at 28 to immediately be treated with suspicion & scrutinized, down to my clothing, of being a fraud. https://t.co/KipcyHaaAb
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) December 10, 2018
Remember Paul Ryan being lauded as a genius before he was even sworn in? Yeah, we don’t either.
Barely anybody knew Paul Ryan’s name until he had served for 10 years and became Ranking Member of the Budget committee https://t.co/y5ydIf03KY
— Bill Scher (@billscher) December 11, 2018
Salon was apparently inspired by that tweet and decided to come to her defense, arguing why she should be “treated with as much credibility as any incoming member of Congress.”
“Double standards”: Why does the media not take Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as seriously as Paul Ryan? https://t.co/FAdKaw0mJo

Please tell me you already know the answer to that question. ??

Have you listened to anything she's said ?
— Gary Carlo (@GaryACarlo) December 12, 2018
This is satire, right?
— HNB (@hnbrown4885) December 12, 2018
Your question is a joke…right?
— tx judy (@txjudyb) December 12, 2018
Because he was Speaker of the House, and she hasn’t even been sworn in as a House freshman yet? ?
— No Smocking Gun (@gypsyluc) December 12, 2018
Maybe because Ryan has almost 20 years of experience in the House, been relected 8 times and was Speaker of the House. AOC hasn't even served a month. Experience matters dumbass. https://t.co/mZ7hRScnp4
— Beto Beane (@RobBeane) December 11, 2018
Maybe because Paul Ryan didn’t make as many ridiculous statements AOC has?
— Boyd Chappell (@ChappellBoyd) December 12, 2018
Prior to 1st election:
Paul Ryan was:
– Legislative aide for Senator Kasten
– Speechwriter for Empower America (now FreedomWorks)
– Speechwriter for Jack Kemp, VP candidate in 1996
– Legislative Director for Sam Brownback.AOC was:
– A (Communist) bartender. https://t.co/1FYLPLJIQB— Tom (@BoreGuru) December 11, 2018
It took me about 2 minutes to look up Paul Ryan's bio on the internet and paste the pre – first election part into that tweet.
Way to go, @Salon!
— Tom (@BoreGuru) December 11, 2018
Probably because Ryan is the Speaker of the House and has demonstrated a firm grasp of complex policy issues over years of public service while AOC is an incoming freshman Rep who has demonstrated ignorance of basic civics and most of the policy issues she has commented on.. https://t.co/igoyGba2xo
— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 12, 2018
AOC has been given a lot more coverage and respect from the press than 99% of incoming Reps. Reason she is really upset is that people keep pointing out that she has no idea what she's talking about. She expects all her coverage to be positive and her ignorance to be overlooked.
— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 12, 2018
Because she is dramatically unqualified for the job. Because she’s an attention hog who has outkicked her coverage. Because she doesn’t know the three parts of the government. Because she thinks she is going to get inaugurated, not sworn in. Mainly, because he’s better.
— Kent Dorfman (@PintoandOtter) December 12, 2018
Ryan spent time as a legislative aide in a Senator's office, had a BA in economics and political science ,was the legislative director for Congressman Sam Brownback of Kansas, and a speechwriter for Jack Kemp.
You mixed drinks and blathered about socialism. https://t.co/ip1GvfHDnr
— Murphy's Law (@frum_reaganite) December 11, 2018
Paul Ryan was chair of the Ways and Means Committee and Speaker of the House.
AOC has not yet even taken office and has show no grasp of even the simplest of issues.
Maybe that's why. https://t.co/InxAAazM62
— Nathan Wurtzel (slight return) (@NathanWurtzel) December 11, 2018
Now, let's ask why AOC has gotten far more media attention than Rep. Elise Stefanik did at the same juncture in their careers.
It's probably because one of them isn't a socialist moron. https://t.co/InxAAazM62
— Nathan Wurtzel (slight return) (@NathanWurtzel) December 11, 2018
She has said insane after insane thing, and even threatened a private citizen with subpoena powers.. I mean, I dunno, maybe not act a fool prior to taking office. She will have plenty of time to do it while in office like the rest of them. https://t.co/SQiJugfHW5
— J.R.S (@_JRS79) December 11, 2018
Probably because she won her primary with 17% voter turnout in NYC.. An uneducated waitress could win that election ?
— Mephibosheth (@Az61Ronin) December 12, 2018
Maybe because she suffers from a lack understanding of basic economics.
— victor schleich (@vicschleich) December 12, 2018
She's like two kids in a trench coat trying to by booze with a fake ID. Of course the liquor store isn't going to take them as seriously as an adult. https://t.co/vRuhGTJsIq
— Eric Spencer (@JustEric) December 12, 2018
For the same reason no one takes you seriously, @Salon https://t.co/9KB4PJQbPm

You guys should go on strike as well, then we don’t have to see stupid ass hot-takes like this. #followslate. #dousafavor
