We’ve seen a lot of hot takes around the passing of former President George H.W. Bush, and a lot of people have become enamored of Sully, Bush’s service dog who was made famous in a beautiful photo of him keeping watch over Bush’s flag-draped casket.
Before dog lovers start spreading any fake news around Sully, though, Slate made it clear that Sully was Bush’s service dog and had been with him for only six months.
Sully H.W. Bush is a service dog who had been with the president for six months, not his lifelong companion: https://t.co/qxfaczu8PV pic.twitter.com/eXOZyWbiFL

Entire Internet *whipping away tears* “that dog is such a good boy”

Normal human response: Aww, a heartwarming story about a dog’s postmortem attachment to his human, who happens to be a former president, national icon, loving father, war hero, and dedicated patriot with decades of selfless service.

You mean the dog isn’t actually 90 human years old?
— Ernest HODLway (@hodlway) December 4, 2018
Wait, he really didn’t:
– Serve with him in WWII
– Follow him to Beijing
– Help him run the RNC
– Accompany him to the House of Reps
– Follow him to through the V.Presidency for 8 years and then to the WH for 4 more
– And stay by his side for another 1/4 of a century? Thanks.

The actual title of the piece (Don’t Spend Your Emotional Energy on Sully H.W. Bush) manages to be even worse than the tweet. Do we really need a preachy contrarian opinion on a sweet moment with a dog that helped an elderly man at the end of his life? https://t.co/325NWx9rS2

The bond between a service animal and partner is more profound than the bond between a pet and owner, and should be respected.
